From fighting fires to fighting for nature
After twenty-two rewarding yet intense years working at one of the busiest fire stations in the Southeast of England, I decided to transition to my lifelong passion for the natural world. I pursued formal studies in countryside management at Plumpton College while gaining immersive, practical conservation experience. This included volunteering for the South Downs National Park Authority, hands-on learning at the pioneering Knepp Estate rewilding project, and completing a six-month conservation internship with the RSPB at Pulborough Brooks.
Caring for precious landscapes and habitats
My career in land stewardship deepened while working as a ranger for the National Trust across the 1,600-acre Polesden Lacey estate. There, I was responsible for caring for ancient woodlands, delicate chalk grasslands, and species-rich wildflower meadows. Later, I joined Dorking-based Wild By Design as woodland lead, managing private woodlands, open spaces, and crafting critical habitats including wildlife ponds and hibernacula. These varied experiences shaped the ecological foundation and craftsmanship of Wood, Water, Earth.
